Some last minute changes

When the schedule was originally penned, The Avengers screening we had planned on seeing was listed at 7:20 pm. The movie times at the theatre change from week to week, and this screening time is no longer available. The nearest times are a 7:25 3D screening, and a 6:50 2D screening. We know that 3D is not everyone’s bag, and we don’t wish to force anyone to spend more money than they have to, so the screening we are now going to see as a group is at 6:50. The meetup time for this has also been moved up to 6:00.

EDIT: Our venue for the Sunday after party has also been changed, we are now going back to Moxie’s to take advantage of their private lounge. Address is 180 Georgia Street, Vancouver, same location as the Friday get-together.

Coming Down to the Wire

Less than 5 days until the event! Just a quick heads up to remind everyone that you can still take advantage of our ticket pre-sale discount

We’d also like to take this opportunity to announce some of the other guests appearing during our main screening.

Nico Audy-Rowland has been a RvB Canwest guest many times, and is always a fan favorite. His musical work both on and off Red vs Blue never fails to inspire. As with past years, Nico will show the process of how he works on his music while playing a few select songs.

Luke McKay, DMZilla, and Jose Rojas and the rest of The Button Mash crew chat about video games, geek culture and reveal some cool upcoming projects.

As for the special guest appearance, you’ll just have to wait and see who it is!

The schedule has been brought up to date with all the newest information, and the local auction page has been updated with some of the cool goodies we’ve got lined up for everyone to bid on.

See you all soon!

New Springs

So the Volunteer deadline is long past, and our volunteers for 2012 have been selected.  We’re not quite sure what to do with them, but we’re fairly certain we’ve made a fantastic choice in bringing them into our little machine we like to call RvB CanWest 2012.

This years volunteer staff are:

Please add these wonderful people to your list of people to keep your eyes out for during the event, to answer your questions or help you with anything.  Mostly, we ask you to bother them as much as possible.  They’ll like that.

A Slight Change of Plans

So, apparently we were thinking a little too ambitiously in planning a two day presentation event. So, we’re cutting it back. I know, I know. It sucks. BUT that doesn’t mean that it’s not happening at all! We’re still having an event! Saturday May 19 is going to rock with our keynote, other panelists, vendors, and our online and onsite auctions.
Separate from the presentations, on Saturday we’ll also be seeing a movie and having a meet-up, both still TBA.  On Sunday we’ll be visiting Playland since we had so much fun there last year, which will be followed by the After Party.
Now comes the best part – tickets prices have come down for the event! $35 gets you into the presentation/auction, a tshirt, and the after party. $15 for the event, $15 for the shirt, $5 for the after party. Prices go up on the day for everything, so get your tickets today!

OH! and while we’ve got your attention, we’d also like to take this posting moment to announce our keynote speaker.

Dave Olson is the VP Community for the media dashboard HootSuite, based in Vancouver. He has previously spoken at such respected events as SXSWi and TEDxCapilano.
See every on May 18 for the meet and greet at Moxie’s.

Read below for a reminder as to what the requirements and expectations are for the volunteers. PLEASE don’t wait to volunteer! Last year we had more people apply AFTER the selected volunteers were announced than before the application deadline, and we’re hoping that this year we’ll get those applications at the appropriate time (which would be..NOW!).

For those interested, please send an email to volunteercanwest@gmail.com with the subject line “2012 VOLUNTEER” with an attached resume and references (pdf preferred).

The Machinery and the Shiny New Paint

While we’re waiting impatiently for further guest announcements and event information, lets introduce you all to the team behind RvB CanWest 2012.

First, and most excitingly, we have new hosts this year. We decided we needed some new energy to our event this year, and truly, it would be hard to find more energy than this monster we have hosting you this year.

The Hosts of RvB CanWest 2012 are:

Sailor Tweek, and her trusty sidekick/keeper/better half, sirNARVY.

Honestly, if you have been hiding under a rock and are somehow unaware of this amazing woman you NEED to get on the bus with the rest of us and start stalking her.
sirNARVY is equally as awesome, but slightly harder to stalk. Try it anyways.

We’ve also been messing around with the staff behind the scenes.  While many faces are the same as 2011′s planning team, there’s been some shuffling around as to who is doing what this year.
Count3D stepped down as coordinator this year, however we couldn’t get rid of him completely (nor would we want to!) so he’s still hanging around as our Event Ambassador and Treasurer.
We have two Event Coordinators this year, Laird and AprilFire.  Laird has coordinated the event in the past, and AprilFire was our communications officer last year. They’ve been working together this year to try to build our event to greater heights this year, and I for one am looking forward to seeing the results.
Grail has passed off the title of Volunteer Coordinator to Fungster, a new addition to the staff though he has volunteered for the event previously.  Grail is, however, retaining the position of our Security Manager.
We also have a new Auction Coordinator this year. unkowngamer has been working with Laird to set up our annual auction.  If you have any questions about, or wish to make donations to our auction, this is the man to talk to!
Last and definitely least is our new Community/Communications Manager. With AprilFire taking on the role of Event Coordinator, the task of belatedly passing on information to the masses has fallen to Kabetz.
If you have any questions or need to talk to someone about the event, our contact information is on the Contact page. You can contact us individually, or through the official RvB CanWest email.

Loading Ready Run Comes to CanWest!

We’ve realized that we’re trying to sell you tickets to an event that you don’t actually know what it is you’re paying to see.
So, in the interest of interesting you in our little event, we’ve decided to share with you, at this time, ONE of our featured guests for CanWest 2012.

On Saturday, May 19, RvB CanWest is proud to present:

Loading Ready Run

As well as providing comedy to the internet and beyond, Loading Ready Run has, since 2007, raised more than $400,000 for Child’s Play charity through their gaming marathon Desert Bus for Hope.
We are incredibly pleased to be hosting them at CanWest this year, and hope you’ll all give them a fantastic welcome to our event.

Keep watching us to find out who else we’ll be showcasing at RvB CanWest 2012!
